time saving gadgets

LiveView is all about saving your precious time especially when you are not willing to search for your phone in an important moment. It’s a Bluetooth wristwatch with a 1.2 inch OLED display, but it is not defined properly if we call it a watch. Rather it’s a very smart accessory for all the devices running Android 2.1 or higher versions. In addition it’s also another screen to be used by the plugins which makes it more usable for different purposes.

It’s 11mm thick and it has to be attached with a strap if you want to put it on your wrist. At the bottom of the device there is a microUSB port for charging.

The basic out of the box functions of this device are: incoming call notification, SMS, Twitter and Facebook updates, displaying date and time, RSS feeds and the android stock media player control. The best function of LiveView is pretty simple, notifying incoming calls though you cannot actually answer your incoming calls, but you can set it to mute the ringer in your busy moments. You can also control the stock Android media player from this device, but your controlling ability will be limited to play, pause, skip and changing the volume. For third party apps the performance of this device is not up to the mark till now. But we can hope it will improve with firmware upgrades in the near future.

ARCHOS 70

With a 7” display, ARCHOS 70 is one of the  richest Android tablet that is flooding the market for the last six months. Archos was already very matured in this market because they caught this train at the first time when the Android tablets were getting popular, but the previous models they had were something that looked cheap compared with iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
This time they have broken free from the drawbacks and stepped into the flow to the future with the 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and the Android 2.2 Froyo loaded in it. Unlike last time when Archos tablets featured resistive touchscreen, this time they are using capacitive multitouch screen.
The form factor of this gadget is very attractive and we might say that in this case it beats both iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab because it’s slimmer. It’s also lighter than those who are the market leaders of the tablet market, so this time you can also call them just alternative rather than calling ‘cheap’ alternative.
You can play multiple formats of videos in HD format, game better with the 3D graphics accelerator and play almost any kind of audio format till now. There is a separate app store for this device named AppsLib store which contains about 10.000 apps till now and getting bigger gradually. The limitation to connect to the Android Marketplace is a major setback as you will not get many of your favorite Android Apps which have made Android so popular even though very recently, a hack has been out enabling you to install the marketplace in your Archos device.

skype news

In a move that will surprise very few people, Skype has updated its iOS app to support mobile video calling.

Today's announcement, accompanied by an app version bump to 3.0, was widely expected to be made next week at CES, but it appears the Luxembourg-based company simply couldn't wait that long, or was perhaps keen for some good PR following last week's global outage. While mobile video calling seemed a natural progression for Skype's iOS client following the release of the iPhone 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch, the first sign that such functionality was on the way appeared last week in a support document on the company's website, followed by a series of teaser videos and tweets.

In terms of features, the updated iOS client packs no surprises, allowing iPhone 3GS and 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch users to make and recieve video calls among each other and with Skype users on PC, Mac and Linux. iPhone 3GS owners are able to use the phone's rear camera for video calling, while iPad and third-generation iPod touch users can receive video only.

Video calling is, as with the desktop service, free and works over 3G and WiFi, though early testing by Engadget suggests the 3G video calling experience is far from ideal. The site also noted that video calling will take a heavy toll on an iOS device's battery, with levels dropping around five per cent after just 10 minutes of use. Video quality over WiFi appears on par with that provided by Apple's built-in FaceTime functionality, though the ability to video call over 3G will obviously give the Skype app at least a slight edge.

The Skype 3.0 app is now live on the App Store and the company has released a promo video to show off its video calling functionality. A quick word of warning - don't hit play if you're offended by bad dancing
